The challenges
of waste treatment

Waste treatment facilities process a wide range of waste types, including organics, chemicals, industrial waste and more. These waste types are treated in various forms of waste treatment facilities, including landfills, incinerators, mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plants, composting plants and recycling facilities. As each type of waste and treatment method has different, often strong and unpleasant odour profiles and emission rates, odour management is a particular challenge. Therefore, the control of these odour emissions requires special technologies and strategies.

Our solution

Various types of exhaust air purification systems can be used. These include biological systems such as biofilters, biotrickling filters, chemical scrubbers and activated carbon filters. A combination of technologies is also possible. Which system is used here depends on the conditions on site (space available, desired cleaning performance), as well as the type of waste and its treatment. We will be happy to advise you!

We manufacture our products from GRP. Glass fibre reinforced plastics (GRP) are made from reinforcing materials (glass fibre mats, fabrics, etc.) that are impregnated with various resins and chemical additives. This has many advantages: low weight with high resistance, non-porous and easy-to-clean surfaces, good thermal insulation values and low thermal expansion.

Icon High savings in energy and operating resources
High savings in energy and operating resources

The optimisation of production processes, the use of energy-efficient machines and systems and the implementation of intelligent control and monitoring systems can significantly reduce energy costs. The economical use of resources such as water, raw materials and packaging materials also helps to conserve resources and reduce environmental pollution. We attach great importance to this, both in our own production and in the planning of your systems.

Odour treatment with biofilter from composting plant

In a biogas and composting plant in Montpellier, approx. 180,000 m³/h of exhaust air is extracted and cleaned in two modular biofilters made of GRP. Each of the biofilters has a filter area of 720 m² (1,440 m² in total), a module height of 2.1 m and a pre-cleaning system based on the cross-flow principle, which is installed in the distribution chamber of the biofilter. The deodorised exhaust air is discharged into the atmosphere at a height of 20 m via a chimney and a fan.

Two biofilters with integrated pre-scrubbers are used to reduce the odour components. The biofilters each have a filter area of 660 m² (1,320 m² in total) and a filter material height of 1.4 metres.

The pre-scrubber is a cross-flow scrubber in which the exhaust air flows horizontally through the packed bed.

The modular biofilter and the scrubber housing are made of GRP. This material is characterised by high stability and weather resistance. The pre-scrubbers are operated with a diluted sulphur solution. This removes ammonia in the exhaust air as well as other alkaline air impurities if they can be washed out with this liquid.

In addition, the exhaust air from the dewatering system is pre-treated using three activated carbon filters before entering the biofilter systems in order to absorb the existing H2S concentrations and prevent acidification of the filter filling material.
